In November of 2022, the Dothan Police Department began investigating a tip received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The tip reported a local individual had electronically transmitted a pornographic image of an underaged minor.
These types of investigations require a large amount of time and resources to bring to conclusion. As the investigation was ongoing, the suspect was identified as 22 year-old Domingo Ortiz Velasquez of Dothan. On January 10, 2023, Velasquez was charged with one count of Dissemination of Child Pornography. For that charge, his bond was set at $30,000.00.
After his initial charge, investigators continued to gather additional evidence. As a result of the continued investigation, on February 14, 2023, Velasquez was charged with 50 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. His bond for these charges has been set at $750,000.00. It should be noted that no local minors were involved in this case.
Due to the sensitive nature of this case and the Alabama Juvenile Privacy laws, no further details will be released.
