Arrest Made in Stabbing Death of Damon Goodson on July 20th

(DOTHAN, Ala.) On August 1, 2024, Dothan Police Investigators arrested and charged Walter Leon Danzey Jr. (48) of Dothan with one count of Murder in connection to the stabbing death of Damon Goodson.  Since Goodson was found near the intersection of West Powell Street and Linden Street, Investigators have been interviewing witnesses and collecting physical evidence in order to identify a suspect.  Police investigators identified Danzey and collected enough evidence to charge him with murder.   Danzey’s bond has been set at $1.5 million.

On July 20, 2024, Dothan Police officers responded to the intersection of West Powell and Linden Street for someone who had been stabbed.  Officer located Damon Goodson and emergency services transported him to a local hospital where he later died.  According to witnesses, Goodson and the suspect were involved in an argument the day of the stabbing.  The suspect attacked Goodson and was stabbed in the process.  Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the argument.

The investigation is still ongoing with investigators following leads to get a clearer understanding of the events surrounding Goodson’s death.  Investigators have recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the attack.  We are awaiting forensic analysis of the evidence.  We continue to support Goodson’s family and hope they have more peace knowing the person responsible is in custody.  If anyone has any information about this case, they are encouraged to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 334-615-3632 or 334-793-0215.
