(DOTHAN, Ala.) At 7:30 pm last night (August 16th), the Dothan Police Department responded to Solomon Park, 2001 Choctaw Street, for reports of shots fired in the park. Officers were quick to arrive on scene and saw a vehicle leaving with several juveniles inside. A traffic stop was conducted, and officers found firearms inside the vehicle. Officers found several fresh spent shell casings in the park proving a firearm had been discharged. Luckily, no juveniles were struck by the gunfire and no injuries were reported. The suspect was found in the vehicle and taken to the Criminal Investigations Division for an interview.
According to witnesses and the suspect, the suspect, a 17-year-old male, was angry at the target of the shooting because she had not given him her phone number at school earlier in the day. At Solomon Park, the suspect saw the victim with her boyfriend and opened fire with a 9mm handgun.
The Dothan Police Department takes this type of conduct very seriously and will hold any person engaging in this type of conduct accountable according to the law. It is a miracle that no one was injured or killed by the actions of this suspect. The 17-year-old suspect is being charged as an adult with two counts of Attempted Assault 1st Degree. He is being held in the Houston County Jail. Due to juvenile privacy laws, his name and photograph will not be released.
