The Dothan Police Department is divided into four main bureaus each commanded by a Police Captain. These bureaus are responsible for carrying out the day-to-day operation of the police department.

Administrative Services Bureau

The Administrative Services Bureau oversees CALEA accreditation, technical services, city jail, the records division, court bailiff, ordinance compliance, animal services, and front desk.

Investigative Services Bureau

The Investigative Services Bureau contains the criminal investigations division, which handles violent crime, juvenile crime and property crime and vice, which handles drug, prostitution, and gambling investigations. The crime scene investigative unit and evidence vault are also a part of this bureau.

Patrol Services Bureau

The Patrol Services Bureau is responsible for the Communications Center as well as the traditional patrol function including the four patrol squads, traffic division, Police K9 Unit, School Resource Officers and School Protection Program, as well as crossing guards.

Special Operations Bureau

The Special Operations Bureau contains the Community Service Division, the Wiregrass Law Enforcement Academy and the Training Division. Additionally, the special service units of the department are overseen by this bureau including the Special Response Team, Rapid Response Team, and Bomb Explosive Disposal team, among others.
