The Dothan Police Department operates the Dothan Animal Shelter for the benefit of the citizens and animals of Dothan and surrounding areas in Houston County. The shelter is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. You can call the shelter regarding adoptions or other questions at (334) 615-4620 during normal business hours. Animal complaints should be directed to the Communications Center at (334) 793-0215.
It is the mission of the Dothan Animal Shelter to protect the rights and lives of both the citizens in Dothan against vicious at-large animals and to protect the beaten, neglected and unwanted animals from their aggressors. We do this by following the prescribed laws in the State and City and by transporting thousands of animals to out-of-state shelters across the United States where there is a shortfall of adoptable pets. Our aggressive transport program saved over 3,800 lives in 2021 and garnered us an unbelievably low 3% euthanasia rate and are a no-kill shelter; unheard of in the government-run world of shelters.
The shelter receives monetary contributions from generous donors to the Dothan Police Foundation. Donations of actual food or other supplies may be made in person to the shelter. Please feel free to drop by during business hours.
Please follow us on Facebook to receive alerts of lost or rescued animals in our area.
