On 6-3-2022, Dothan Police Officers responded to the 400 block of North Oates Street to a report of a sexual assault. It was learned the suspect, Anthon Paul Salmon, approached a female and sexually assaulted her and attempted to rape her. As a result, Anthony Paul Salmon, 37 years old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Sexual Abuse First Degree, and one count of Attempted Rape First Degree. He currently has no bond.
Man Assaulted and Robbed at a Local Motel
On May 29, 2022, a man was invited to a local motel by a female acquaintance. While there, the man was assault by two other individuals who were hiding and waiting on him. At least one of those individuals was armed with a weapon. During the assault, the victim was pushed into a large glass window which broke. Pieces of the broken glass cut the victim causing a serious arm injury. The victim had surgery for his injury and is still undergoing treatment. Money was taken from the victim during the assault. Thus far, three individuals have been arrested for this incident.
Rickel Elijah Daniel, 23 years old of Dothan; Desaree Bronbdell Chaffins, 29 years old of Dothan; and Brandy Hope Townsend, 43 years old of Dothan; have all been charged with one count of Robbery First Degree. Their bond was set at $60,000.00 each.
Contractor Charged with Theft from Employer
Between the first part of April and the end of May 2022, Lester Grout III was contracted to do maintenance work for a local hotel. During this time, Grout took 21 new TVs from the storage room which he had access to as part of his maintenance duties. He then sold all the TVs at various locations throughout the area.
Lester Charles Grout III, 41 years old of Enterprise, AL, is being sought for Theft of Property First Degree.
Man Charged With Chemical Endangerment of Children
On 5/31/2022, Dothan Police Department answered a call in the 200 block of Westmont Drive where it was reported two small children had been left at home alone. One child was reported to have consumed over the counter medication. Officers arrived and confirmed the two children were in fact home alone and had access to narcotics in the home that were within their reach. The guardian of the children, Terry Sims, arrived home from running an errand and stated he had knowledge of narcotics being in the home. Both children received a medical evaluation at a local hospital and were released. This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming.
Terry Lee Sims, 65 years old of Dothan, has been charged with two counts of Chemical Endangerment of a Child. His bond was set at $5,000.00
Webb Man Charged With Sodomy
On May 20, 2022, a victim reported to the Dothan Police Department she had been sexually victimized two days prior. The investigation led to identifying the suspect as Dexter Allen Owens Jr. It is believed Owens forced the adult female to engage in sexual activities against her will, resulting in this charge.
Dexter Allen Owens Jr., 36 years old of Webb, AL, was arrested and charged with Sodomy First Degree. His bond was set at $60.000.00.
Dothan Man Charged With Robbery
On May 20, 2022, Dothan Police Officers and Investigators responded to a robbery of a person call that occurred in the 300 block of W. Burdeshaw Street. The suspect presented a handgun and demanded money from the victim. With information provided by the victim and witnesses, attempts were made to locate the suspect in the nearby area, but those attempts were unsuccessful.
Fortunately, on the night of May 25, 2022, the victim and one of the witnesses to the robbery saw the suspect and recognized him. They were able to follow the suspect while they called police to the area. Police made contact with the individual and was able to identify him as Franklin Jermaine Baker. It was confirmed Baker was the person responsible for the earlier robbery that took place. The handgun used in the robbery was also recovered.
Franklin Jermaine Baker, 29 years old of Dothan, was charged with Robbery First Degree. His bond was set at $60,000.00.

Dothan Man Charged With Sodomy
On May 24, 2022, Dothan Police Department arrested De’Ante Jaquan Ramey and charged him with Sodomy for an incident that took place the day before in the 1000 block of South Bell Street in Dothan. Ramey forced an adult female to engage in sexual activities against her will which resulted in this charge.
De’Ante Jaquan Ramey, 19 Years old from Dothan, was charged with Sodomy First Degree. His bond was set at $60,000.00.
Woman Charged After Waving A Pistol Towards Officer
On Monday, May 23, 2022, Dothan Police Department responded to an assault call in the Chapelwood neighborhood. The suspect was identified as Rita Davis. Davis was alleged to have struck the victim on the head with a concrete block which instigated a physical altercation between the two. An officer arrived and was speaking to the victim and witnesses when Davis walked up waving a handgun and pointed it at the victim who was standing next to the officer. The officer ordered Davis to drop the weapon but she initially refused to comply. Davis eventually placed the weapon in her boot and the officer was able to take her into custody. The victim received treatment for a minor injury.
Rita Davis, 50 years old of Dothan, was charged with Assault Second Degree, Menacing, and Obstructing Governmental Operations. Her bond was set at $24,000.00.
Man Charged With Burglary
On Monday, May 23, 2022, Dothan Police Officers responded to a burglary call in the 300 Block of East Lafayette Street. The occupants of the residence were not home but witnesses saw a man carrying a window air-conditioner out of the residence. Thanks to the observant witness, within minutes, officers located the suspect and the air-conditioner just a few blocks away.
Kelvin Krushion Smith, 52 years old of Dothan, was charged with Burglary Third Degree. His bond was set at $15,000.00.
Exchange of Gunfire Leads to One Man’s Arrest
During the early morning hours of Sunday, 5/22/2022, a group of individuals engaged in an exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of a hotel in the 3500 block of Ross Clark Circle. As officers arrived, the individuals were still exchanging gunfire. Several suspects ran on foot while others left on vehicles. One of the suspects was captured after he discarded his firearm. Two patron’s vehicles and the hotel were damaged, however, there were no injuries.
Mekhi Nasir Lawton, 18 years of age, of Dothan, was charged with two counts of Shooting into an Unoccupied Vehicle. His bond was set at $30,000.00.
