Exchange of Gunfire Leads to One Man’s Arrest

During the early morning hours of Sunday, 5/22/2022, a group of individuals engaged in an exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of a hotel in the 3500 block of Ross Clark Circle.  As officers arrived, the individuals were still exchanging gunfire.  Several suspects ran on foot while others left on vehicles.  One of the suspects was captured after he discarded his firearm.  Two patron’s vehicles and the hotel were damaged, however, there were no injuries.

Mekhi Nasir Lawton, 18 years of age, of Dothan, was charged with two counts of Shooting into an Unoccupied Vehicle.  His bond was set at $30,000.00.

Man Seriously Injured After Being Struck With a Shovel

On Friday, 5-20-2022, officers responded to the 100 block of E. Lafayette Street for an assault in which a shovel was reported to have been used on the victim. Upon arrival, officers found the victim semi-conscious, and in fact had been assaulted with a shovel. The suspect, who was still at the scene, was identified as Mark Anthony Vaudo. It was learned both subjects had been involved in a verbal disagreement which turned physical. During the physical altercation, Vaudo picked up a shovel and struck the victim on the side of his head. The victim received serious, non-life threatening, injuries which consisted of a skull fracture, broken facial bones and a mangled ear. The victim was treated at Southeast Health and was later transferred to another facility for specialized treatment. Vaudo was treated and released from a local hospital for a minor injury.

Dothan Woman Charged With Five Counts of Chemical Endangerment of a Child

On May 14, 2022, officers responded to a call in the 2000 block of Shadybrook Lane in Dothan.  While there, it was learned the adult female at that location was in charge of five children, all under the age of 17.  In a common area of the residence, she had what was believed to be liquid Xanax-soaked gummy candy.  All five children had access to the candy, and it was believed she possibly allowed one of the children to intentionally ingest some of the candy.

Brandy Leshee Waters, 41 years old of Dothan, was charged with 5 counts of Chemical Endangerment of a child.  Her bond was set at $75,000.00.

Man Charged with Possession of Fake Checks

On May 14, 2022, Dothan patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that attempted to elude officers. Once the vehicle came to a stop in the 900 block of Allen Road, officers  instructed all occupants to exit the vehicle.  While doing so, a passenger threw unknown objects out the passenger window.  As officers investigated to see what the objects were, it was determined to be four fraudulent checks the passenger attempted to destroy to avoid being caught with in his possession.  The passenger was identified as 18 year old Jumarion Nasir Walker, of Dothan.  Walker was charged with four counts of Possession of Forged Instrument Third Degree.  His bond was set at $40,000.00.

Man Charged with Theft of a Vehicle

On May 14, 2022, Phillip Gregory Sloan got into a vehicle and drove away without the knowledge of the owner while in the parking lot of a business in the 300 block of Columbia Highway.   The owner, who observed their vehicle leaving without their knowledge, requested a ride from a stranger and had the stranger follow their stolen vehicle while they called 911.  Within minutes, officers were able to conduct a traffic stop on the victim’s vehicle and take Sloan into custody.  There was no connection between Sloan and the owner of the vehicle.

Additional Child Pornography Charges for Dothan Man

On April 5, 2022, Dothan Police arrested Omarion Jackson, of Dothan, after a lengthy investigation involving child pornography.  The investigation was the result of a tip sent from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to the Alabama Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.  Investigators with the Dothan Police Department, who are members of the ICAC Task Force, began an investigation that led to this arrest.  The investigation revealed Jackson was in possession of multiple files containing child pornography.  He was originally charged with 50 counts of Possession of Child Pornography.

Now that the additional evidence has been processed, on May 11, 2022, Omarion Jackson was charged with 24 counts of Dissemination of Child Pornography in addition to his original charges.  His bond for these charges has been set at $720,000.00.

Two Dothan Women Charged With Robbery

On April 20, 2022,  a robbery and assault of a male victim occurred in the 200 block of West Adams Street in Dothan.  The allegations are that while the victim was walking down the street, two females approached him in a vehicle.  The females confronted him and demanded his property while threatening to spray him with pepper spray.  While running form the suspects, the victim dropped some of his property.  The two suspects took the victims property and got back in their vehicle and left.  While leaving, the suspect’s vehicle struck the victim causing minor injury.  As a result of these allegations, Tatyanna Shambrea Musgrove, 23 years old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Robbery Second Degree.  Her bond was set at $30,000.00.  Matilda Gabrielle Young, 22 years old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Robbery Second Degree and one count of Assault Second Degree.  Her bond has been set at $45,000.00.

Man Charged with Breaking into Vehicles and Theft of Property

On 4/23/2022 and 4/24/2022, two vehicles were broken into in the 1900 block of Melba Drive in Dothan.  Around the same time, some power equipment was taken from the yard of a residence in the 1900 block of Melba Drive.  Investigators have now charged 21 year old Davion Datron Turner, of Dothan, with two counts of Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle and one count of Theft of Property Second Degree.  His bond is set at $45,000.00.

Dothan City School Bus And Other Vehicles Shot Into With BB Gun

On Thursday afternoon, 5/5/2022, at approximately 3:00 PM, the Dothan Police Department received a call about a Dothan City school bus being shot into while traveling in the area of Fortner Street and South Park Avenue.  There were children on the bus at the time this occurred, however, there were no injuries of any kind.  Multiple officers and investigators quickly saturated the area to begin canvassing for suspects.

While officers were responding to the school bus, two other victims called reporting their vehicles had been shot into as well while traveling in the same area.  It was determined the shots were fired by someone in the front yard of a residence in the 900 block of Fortner Street.  Officers quickly surrounded the residence and detained all occupants.  Three weapons were found inside the residence. One of them is believed to have been used to shoot at the school bus and other vehicles.  Upon examination, all three weapons were determined to be compressed-air powered BB guns and all of them were replicas of real guns.

As a result, 20 year old Jacquette Daquin Townsend, of Dothan, was charged with three counts of Throwing or Shooting Deadly or Dangerous Missile into Occupied Vehicle.  His bond was set at $45,000.00.

Woman Arrested After Cutting the Man She Wanted A Relationship With

On Saturday, 4/30/2022, the Dothan Police Department responded to Sunset Drive and met the victim of an edge weapon assault that had occurred on Torino Drive.   The victim received lacerations to the face, hand, and arm, but they were not serious.  The suspect, 19 year-old Tayla Thompson, of Headland, confronted the victim because she was attempting to have a relationship with him, and she discovered they did not share the same vision.  While engaged in a conversation, it escalated to the point she produced a knife and as a result, he received the injuries.  Thompson was charged with one count of Assault Second Degree.  Her bond was set at $15,000.00.
