Soldier Arrested for Drug Possession

The Dothan Police Department Vice Intelligence Division conducted a traffic stop on 09/18/2019 following a drug investigation involving a member of the Alabama National Guard. Investigators recovered LSD, Methamphetamine, Marijuana, and drug paraphernalia during the course of the traffic stop.

Investigators have arrested and charged 28 year old Charles Kalid Segrest, of Azalae Road Slocomb, with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (LSD), Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (meth), Possession of Marijuana 2nd degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Search Warrant Leads to Burglary Arrest and Fire

On September 17, 2019 Dothan Police executed a search warrant in the 5000 block of Third Avenue. The search warrant was related to a Burglary that occurred at the Outpost gun store located in the 2600 block of Ross Clark Circle. The suspect, Jefferey Wilson (30), was also a suspect in a burglary of a pawn shop in Geneva Alabama.

When investigators arrived the suspect barricaded himself inside the fifth wheel RV that he was living in. He refused officers commands to exit the camper and the Dothan SRT and Houston County SRT teams both responded the location. While officers were attempting to talk the suspect out of the RV, smoke began coming out of the roof of the camper. Smoke quickly turned to flames and Wilson exited through a window at the rear of the camper and was taken into custody and moved to a safe location.

Dothan Fire Department as well as Rehobeth Fire Department extinguished the fire, however the camper was a total loss. After the fire was extinguished officers were able to recover evidence from both burglaries.

Jefferey Bruce Wilson was charged with one count of burglary 3rd Degree, one count of Arson 3rd Degree and no bond has been set in this case. Wilson will also face charges in Geneva County.

One Arrested in Shooting at Dollar General Store

On September 12, 2019 Dothan Police responded to a report of a shooting at the Dollar General Store located in the 700 block of W. Selma Street. Police arrived and found that the front door and windows to the business were shattered from gunshots. Inside they found 21 year old Dontez Thomas with a gunshot wound to his lower back. Thomas was transported to a local hospital for non life threatening injuries and he was later released.

Investigators arrived on scene and began watching surveillance videos from the businesses and saw Thomas and another male arguing in the parking lot. Thomas walked to the Dollar General Store after the argument. As he was entering the store the other male, later identified as 24 year old Howard Tremaine Grant of Dothan, fired five shots at Thomas. One of those bullets struck Thomas in the back and the others travelled through the windows and door of the store that was full of customers. No one else was injured in the shooting.

Grant was seen on video and by witnesses getting into a white sedan and fleeing the scene. The suspect and vehicle description was broadcast to local law enforcement and Eufaula Police were able to stop the vehicle in Eufaula. Grant was brought back to Dothan and charged with one count of Attempted Murder, one count of Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, and one count of Shooting into an Occupied Building. No bond has been set in this case.

Dothan Police Assist Panama City Beach Police Department in Murder Investigation

On September 2nd 2019 Panama City Beach Police Department began investigating the murder Larry Thomas Hill III, a resident of Panama City Beach, that occurred at Wendy’s Hamburgers on Thomas Drive. During the investigation they were able to identify the suspect as a juvenile from Dothan Alabama.

On September 11th 2019 Investigators from the Panama City Beach Police Department travelled to Dothan and asked for assistance in locating the suspect. Investigators and Patrolmen from the Dothan Police Department served a search warrant in the 900 block of S. Range St. in Dothan. Two juvenile suspects were located at the residence and taken to the Dothan Police Department for interviews. The firearm used in the murder was also located hidden near the residence.

Panama City Beach Police Department has charged the seventeen year old juvenile with one count of Murder and also charged a fifteen year old with Accessory to Murder. They have been placed in the Southeast Alabama Diversion Center and await court proceedings and extradition.

Dothan Police made one arrest in this case. 49 year old Karen Crow has been charged with one count of Hindering Prosecution 1st Degree for her participation in this case. She has a bond amount of $15,000.00.

Search Warrant Leads to Drugs and Stolen Guns

On 08/14/2019 Vice Investigators executed a search warrant in the 400 block of S. College Street concluding a month long investigation into narcotics being sold on the south side of Dothan.

Vice Investigators recovered ice (methamphetamine), crack cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a stolen firearm, and US currency from the residence.

Investigators have arrested and charged 32 year old Donnie Rafeal Smith, of S. College Street, with Drug Trafficking (methamphetamine), Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (cocaine), Possession of Marijuana 1st degree, Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Receiving Stolen Property 4th degree.

Bonds have been set at a total of $169,000. All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Dothan Police Makes Arrest in Burglary

On Aug. 5th 2019 Performance Machine Works, located in the 300 block of Southgate Rd. was a victim of an attempted burglary. The suspects were seen on video surveillance damaging the locks on the fronts doors in an attempt to gain entry into the business. When unsuccessful they went to the rear of the business and damaged the roll up doors before fleeing on foot.

On Aug. 6th 2019 the same two suspects went back to the business and were able to make entry at the rear of the building. Once inside the suspects stole five handguns from the business and damaged a glass case.

Patrol officers were able to identify a suspect in the burglary and made contact with them at Tanglewood Apartments on W. Inez Road. Investigators were called to the scene and a search warrant was conducted at the home of the suspects.

During the search warrant all five handguns were recovered  as well as clothing that was worn during the burglary.

Dothan Police arrested 18 year old Jamir Yasin Baxter of Dothan and charged him with one count of Burglary 3rd Degree and one count of Attempted Burglary 3rd degree. He has a $10,000.00 bond.

Dothan Police also arrested a juvenile for Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree and the juvenile was placed in the Southeast Alabama Diversion Center.

Suspect in Early Morning Theft and Chase in Custody

On Tuesday July 23, 2019 Dothan Police Officers attempted to stop a Chevrolet pick-up truck in the area of Murphy Mill Road for a traffic violation. The driver of the truck fled from officers pulling a utility trailer. The driver drove through the yard of a nearby residence causing damage to the residence and fence. The suspect ended up in a wooded area on Riveredge Parkway in Dothan, leaving the truck and trailer and set out into the woods on foot.

Officers searched the area with help from the Dale County Sheriff’s Office, Wiregrass Aviation Support Program, Houston County Sheriff’s Department, ALEA Investigators and Alabama State Troopers. During the search officers located several other pieces of stolen property from the Dothan area. Two more utility trailers and a lawn mower were discovered that had been stolen from a nearby church. In the bed of the truck were numerous stolen items from a recent burglary in Geneva County to include several firearms, televisions, tools, and electronics.

The suspect was not located until several hours later when a resident in the 200 block of Riveredge Parkway returned home and saw a pair of feet sticking out from under a bed in the home. Police responded to the residence to investigate. With the idea that this was the suspect from this morning a Police K9 was deployed into the hose after verbal warnings were given. After no response the K9 searched the residence and encountered the suspect in a bedroom and apprehended the suspect by biting him in the right bicep.

The suspect was identified as 44 year old white male Jason Dewayne Creel of Dothan. He was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries from the Police K9.

Once the suspect was in custody the resident noticed that their family dog, a mixed breed lab/bulldog, was missing from the home. The dog was located under the deck at the rear of the home. The dog had been stabbed by the suspect multiple times in the throat. The family dog, Buddy, did not survive this attack. Creel later admitted to police that the dog “came at him” so he stabbed him with his pocket knife.

Creel, wet and dirty from his time in the wooded area removed his clothes and hid them in a closet. He helped himself to food and drink from the refrigerator. Creel also logged into the family computer and watched pornography until he finally crawled under a bed and fell asleep until awoken by Dothan Police K9 Xander.

Jason Dewayne Creel is charged with three counts of Theft of Property 1st degree, one count of Receiving Stolen Property 1st degree, one count of Burglary 3rd degree, one count of Aggravated Animal Cruelty, and Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess Firearms. He is being held with no bond in this case.

This investigation is ongoing and additional charges will be forthcoming.

 

Search Warrant Yields 2.5 Kilos of Meth

The Dothan Police Department Vice Unit has executed a search warrant in the 1400 block of E. Selma Street, bringing an extensive investigation into methamphetamine being sold throughout Dothan and Houston County to a close.

A search of the residence yielded approximately two and a half kilos (five and a half pounds) of methamphetamine, with a street value of $200,000.00. Also recovered was a small amount of synthetic marijuana, paraphernalia used for drug trade, and a handgun.

Investigators have arrested and charged 28 year old Jordan Skylar Thompson, of the 1500 block of Galaxie Drive, with Drug Trafficking (Methamphetamine), Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Synthetic Marijuana), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. Bond will be set later this morning.

All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Federal Fugitive Arrested in Dothan

On July 11, 2019 The Dothan Police Department Vice Unit and the United States Marshals located and arrested 33 year Jimmy Lamar Berry of Monroe Street in Dothan. Berry was wanted by the US Marshals for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and three counts of Possession (of illegal narcotics) with Intent to Distribute.

After Berry was taken into custody for the Federal Indictments. Vice Investigators executed a search warrant at his residence. During the course of the search, Investigators located and recovered cocaine, marijuana, THC vape oil, currency, and a stolen firearm.

Jimmy Lamar Berry has been additionally charged with Drug Trafficking (cocaine), Possession of Marijuana 1st degree, Possession of a Pistol by a Violent Offender, Receiving Stolen Property 4th degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Berry was booked into the Dothan City Jail and has $1.537 million in bonds with multiple Federal and State charges pending.

Berry’s arrest concludes months of investigative work into his lawless lifestyle.

Parents Charged with Manslaughter in Death of Two Year Old

On June 28, 2019 at approximately 7:30 P.M Dothan Police responded to a report of a two year old child inside of a vehicle not breathing. The officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Lace Dr. in Dothan. The child, Castiel King,  was rushed to SouthEast Health where he was pronounced deceased.

An investigation into the circumstances of the death revealed that the child was left unattended by the parents and exited the home and entered the vehicle on his own. Both parents were asleep in the home and under the influence of intoxicants.

As a result of the investigation Robert Patrick King (36) and Melinda Gail King (38) were both charged with one count of Manslaughter each and both have a $30,000.00 bond. Robert and Melinda were also both charged with one count of Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree and each have a $15,000.00 bond for that charge.

All parties are innocent until proven guilty.
