DPD K9 of the day Dex

Canine Dex is a 6 year old Dutch speaking German Shepherd born in Holland in November 2013. Dex is one of the youngest dogs to ever begin with Dothan Police starting at just 10 months old. Dex is one of the best trackers in the department with multiple person and evidence finds. His partner says one of their best accomplishments in tracking was locating a suspect on a mile-long track through an urban environment. Dex carries his Tasmanian type energy home and is described by his partner as a bull in a china shop having chewed many couch pillows and constantly knocking things over. Despite this his Handler says he is deeply loved by he and his family!

DPD K9 of the day Bobo

Canine Bobo is a 3 year old German Shepherd and Malinois mix commonly referred to as a “Malaherd”. Bobo is from Hungary and arrived in the United States in April 2017. Bobo enjoys working for his reward and does not like to give it back once he has won it! He loves playing fetch and recently won the coveted title of top narcotic dog in the 2019 Dothan Police K-9 seminar.

DPD K9 of the day Xander

Xander is a 3 year old German Shepherd from Holland. All of his commands are in Dutch. His Handler says some funny facts about him are that he has a snaggletooth, he grunts while he is asleep and he is scared of turtles!

DPD K9 Dog of the day Sandor

Today’s canine of the day is Sandor. Here is what his partner has to say about him, my partner Sandor is a shepherd. He was born in Holland on March 25th 2014 and began his career with Dothan in December of 2016. Sandor loves tennis balls but pops them,”Quick, fast and in a hurry”. When Sandor is at work he is all business but when he is home he is a big teddy bear that wants to lick you to death and play. Long story short, Sandor is my best friend and the most loyal partner anyone could ask for.

DPD K9 of the day Paul

Today’s dog of the day is canine Paul. Here is what his partner says about him, At work Paul is a hard worker and full of energy. Paul loves his job and would spend everyday at work if he could. He loves his ball but is stubborn and doesn’t like to give it up when it’s time for bed. He has no idea how big he is and his tail is constantly knocking things over. He is a goofy gentle giant and is my best friend.

DPD K9 Dog of the Day!

DPD K9 Unit would like to introduce K9 Bert. Bert is one of two new partners for the Dothan Police Department and we congratulate him and his Handler on their upcoming graduation from K9 School this week. Bert will celebrate his second birthday in May. He is a Malaherd from Hungary who has only been in the United States for a few months but has adjusted well! His handler says that Bert loves playing with his kong, enjoys coming to work and loves wearing his uniform, a fitted police harness. Welcome Bert!

Community Helpers’ Week at Houston Academy!

Today the Special Response Team and Bomb Team were invited to give presentations to students at Houston Academy! Students were able to learn about the special tools and tactics each team utilizes, and learn a little about the kind of person it takes to accept the responsibility of joining these specialized teams!

Crash causes power outage

A vehicle crash In the 1000 block of John D. Odom Road has caused a power outage. Please use caution if you are driving in the area as police, fire, medical and utilities units are on scene.

If you are without power please be careful if you were using any appliances (especially your stove) when the power failed. Be sure and turn off any appliances that may have been operating when the power failed.
