Dothan Man Charged with Sex Crimes and Drugs

In January 2023, the Dothan Police Department was notified of allegations of sex crimes against a juvenile that had occurred over the past few years. An investigation has been ongoing since that time. As a result of the investigation, on March 13, 2023, warrants were obtained on the suspect for several sex crimes against a juvenile. All of the sex crimes involved the same victim. The suspect has been identified as Marlo Antonio Ming.

On March 14, 2023, officers made contact with Ming and arrested him for the outstanding warrants. At the time of his arrest, Ming was in possession of a firearm that was determined to be stolen. He was also in possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and other material indicative of narcotic sales.

As a result, Marlo Antonio Ming, 26 years-old of Dothan, has been charged with two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Child less than 12 years old, one count of Sexual Abuse Second Degree, one count of Rape First Degree, one count of Receiving Stolen Property Second Degree, and one count of Possession of Marijuana First Degree. His total bond was set at $156,000.00.

Due to the sensitive nature of this case and the Alabama Juvenile Privacy Laws, no further information will be released.

Dothan Man Charged with Chemical Endangerment of a Child

On Sunday, March 12, 2023, officers went to a residence in the 1300 block of Stadium Street to attempt to make contact with an adult male who had an outstanding felony warrant. It was determined the male and three juveniles were inside the residence and initially the male refused to open the door. Officers detected a strong odor of illegal narcotics coming from inside the residence. After several minutes, the male allowed officers to enter the residence. A search warrant was executed on the residence and as a result, marijuana was found in various locations throughout the residence, as well as various items of drug paraphernalia.

The male, James Arshan III, 41 years-old of Dothan, was arrested on the original outstanding warrant for Receiving Stolen Property Second Degree. For the current incident, Arshan was charged with Possession of Marijuana First Degree, and three counts of Chemical Endangerment of a Child. His bond for these charges was set at $60,000.00.

Inmate Assaulted at the Dothan City Jail

On Sunday, March 12, 2023, officers responded to an assault on an inmate at the Dothan City Jail. Officers found the victim inmate suffering from a facial injury that was caused by a plastic handle of a toothbrush that had been sharpened down into a point and used as a weapon. This weapon is commonly referred to as a “shank”.

The suspect inmate, identified as Tarik Tramon Hawkins, was having a verbal altercation with the victim inmate during which time another inmate, Zyshawn Codaun Coker, provided the weapon to Hawkins. Hawkins took possession of the weapon and used it on the victim before laying it down. Then, another inmate, Romillo Jamal Porter, retrieved the weapon and attempted to hide it in a cell. The weapon was recovered by officers during a search of the cell.

As a result, three individuals have been charged. Tarik Tramon Hawkins, 25 years-old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Assault Second Degree and one count of Promoting Prison Contraband First Degree.

Zyshawn Codaun Coker, 21 years-old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Promoting Prison Contraband First Degree.

Romillo Jamal Porter, 27 years-old of Dothan, has been charged with one count of Promoting Prison Contraband First Degree.

Due to the fact these charges are felonies, all three individuals have been transferred to the Houston County Jail where they are being held with no bond.

The victim received treatment at a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

 

 

Weekend shooting wounds three, one is in custody

On March 4, 2023 the Dothan Police Department responded to reports of an Assault in the 3000 block of Ross Clark Circle. Upon arrival officers found three victims had been shot with a firearm. Investigators responded to the scene and were able to identify the shooter, Antinio Zy’Keith Turner of Dothan. At this time, Turner has been arrested for three counts of Assault I. He is currently being held in the Houston County Jail with no bond. Victims were treated at area hospitals, and their injuries are not life threatening.

Trio Charged with Chemical Endangerment

On January 30, 2023, the Dothan Police Department began investigating a report of possible sexual abuse of a child under the age of 16. When investigators went to make contact with the involved parties, they located three adults, three minor children, and illegal narcotics. As the investigation continued, it was discovered that one of the adults had inappropriate sexual contact with one of the minor children.

As a result of this investigation, the following individuals have been charged:

Anthony Ray Hartley Sr., 37 years-old of Dothan was charged with three counts of Chemical Endangerment of a Child. His bond was set at $45,000.00.

Kayla Michelle Tubbs, 33 years-old of Dothan was charged with three counts of Chemical Endangerment of a Child. Her bond was set at $45,000.00.

Gavin Eugene Grantham, 26 years-old of Dothan was charged with three counts of Chemical Endangerment of a Child, one count of Willful Abuse of a Child, and one count of Sexual Abuse Second Degree. His bond was set at $66,000.00.

Due to the sensitive nature of this case and the Alabama juvenile privacy laws, no further information about this case will be released.

On Thursday, February 23, 2023, an infant child was presented to a local pediatric facility for treatment of a possible facial injury. Medical personnel immediately realized the severity of the injury and had the child transported to a local hospital or further evaluation. It appeared the child had some type of impact injury to the area of the forehead and eyes. The Dothan Police Department was notified and immediately began an investigation. It was determined the child was in the care and custody of his father at the time of the injury. The father’s explanation of the injury was not consistent with the type and severity of the injury. As a result, 25 year-old Christopher Curtis Rodriguez of Dothan was arrested and charged with one count of Willful Abuse of a Child.  His bond was set at $15,000.00.

It is believed that after the child has time to heal, he will make a full recovery.

Dothan Man Charged with Rape

Thursday night, February 23, 2023, Dothan Police were called to a local hospital to meet with a sexual assault victim. An investigation into the allegations was conducted and a search warrant was conducted at the location of the crime in which possible evidence was collected. As a result of the investigation, the suspect, 36 year old Ryan Harold Barber of Dothan was arrested and charged with one count of Rape First Degree. He is being held in the Houston County Jail with no bond at this time.

Suspect Identified in Recent Murder

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at approximately 12:15 AM, the Dothan Police Department responded to a murder in the 700 block of Monroe Street. The victim was identified as Shamel Roscel Hagler, 25 years old of Dothan. Investigators have now identified the suspect they believe to be responsible for this murder as 34 year-old Justin Cordelro Britt of Dothan. Britt is currently wanted for one count of Murder.

The whereabouts of Britt are unknown at this time, but we are asking the public for assistance in locating him. Woman Assaulted Police Officer

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, officers responded to the 800 block of Whiddon Street for an intoxicated and disorderly person. Officers made contact with the suspect, Latedrus Rhodes, and attempted to have her leave the property at the request of the property owner. When asked to do so, Rhodes refused. Officers advised Rhodes she was being arrested and began taking her into custody. Rhodes began to resist and fight with officers during which time she bit an officer on the arm causing minimal injury.

Latedrus Rhodes, 29 years-old of Dothan, was charged with one count of Assault Second Degree.  Her bond was set at $15,000.00.

Dothan Man Charged with Elder Abuse Once Again

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, Dothan Police Department charged 30 year-old Travis Ren Mattox of Dothan with one count of Violation of Elder Abuse Protection Order and one count of Elder Abuse Second Degree. Mattox entered the residence of a family member here in Dothan and began to express violent behavior towards the victim. The victim attempted to call 911 but Mattox grabbed the victim and took the phone before destroying it. The victim was able to go to a neighbor and have them contact the Police Department. Mattox was located close to the residence and was taken into custody. Mattox is currently in the Houston County jail with no bond.

A similar incident took place in September of 2022. At the time of that incident, Mattox was charged with Violation of Elder Abuse Protection Order and Elder Abuse Second Degree also.
