On May 22nd, 2022, at approximately 6:05 pm the Dothan Police were dispatched to serious wreck on Montgomery Highway and Barrington Road. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver is a Hispanic Male, Benjamin Flores, 35 years of age.
The vehicle involved was an older model pickup truck. The truck left the roadway and crossed Barrington Road after skidding through the grass and struck a telephone pole. This is an ongoing investigation by the Dothan Police Crash Team.
The Dothan Police Department would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the Flores family.
During the early morning hours of Sunday, 5/22/2022, a group of individuals engaged in an exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of a hotel in the 3500 block of Ross Clark Circle. As officers arrived, the individuals were still exchanging gunfire. Several suspects ran on foot while others left on vehicles. One of the suspects was captured after he discarded his firearm. Two patron’s vehicles and the hotel were damaged, however, there were no injuries.
Mekhi Nasir Lawton, 18 years of age, of Dothan, was charged with two counts of Shooting into an Unoccupied Vehicle. His bond was set at $30,000.00.

Early Sunday morning, 5-22-2022, a Dothan man was murdered while outside a downtown café in the 200 block of East Powell Street. The victim has been identified as 21 year-old Jacques Adarius McLeod-Roberts, of Dothan. McLeod-Roberts was outside the business when an unknown person walked up and shot him one time. McLeod-Roberts was pronounced deceased at the scene. No motive and no suspect are known at this time. This incident did not involve the business he was at; it only occurred in front of the business on the sidewalk. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.

On Friday, 5-20-2022, officers responded to the 100 block of E. Lafayette Street for an assault in which a shovel was reported to have been used on the victim. Upon arrival, officers found the victim semi-conscious, and in fact had been assaulted with a shovel. The suspect, who was still at the scene, was identified as Mark Anthony Vaudo. It was learned both subjects had been involved in a verbal disagreement which turned physical. During the physical altercation, Vaudo picked up a shovel and struck the victim on the side of his head. The victim received serious, non-life threatening, injuries which consisted of a skull fracture, broken facial bones and a mangled ear. The victim was treated at Southeast Health and was later transferred to another facility for specialized treatment. Vaudo was treated and released from a local hospital for a minor injury.
Mark Anthony Vaudo, 43 years old, of Dothan, was charged with Assault First Degree. His bond was set at $30,000.00.
CAPTURED:Thanks to an observant citizen in Palm Bay, Florida who spotted these two individuals, the truck and the camper in a Walmart parking lot. The citizen called the local police and the pair were taken into custody. Once again, help from the community has made it possible for two criminals to be taken off the street. The pair now face charges in Palm Bay, Florida as well as multiple other states.
On May 18, 2022, Criminal Investigators with the Dothan Police Department signed felony warrants for two con artists traveling through our area. On May 10, 2022, Joshua William Matheny and Mary Jane Matheny were traveling in a dually pick-up truck pulling a fifth-wheel camper. The pair stopped at the Marathon Station in the 2400 block of Reeves Street and purchased $578.00 worth of fuel. They provided the clerk with a fraudulent credit card prior to pumping the fuel then left, leaving behind the fraudulent card. Through the course of the investigation, it has been discovered the pair have conducted similar activities in the surrounding area, as well as other states. Both are wanted for various felony crimes in multiple states. They were last known to be traveling in the dually pick-up truck pictured below, pulling the fifth-wheel camper pictured also. It has been confirmed the dually pick-up truck is stolen.

Around 2:30 PM on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, two unknown black males robbed the HOBO Pantry Convenience Store located in the 3000 block of Denton Road. At least one of the suspects was armed with a hand gun and fired one round inside the business. The other suspect went behind the counter and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the business. The two suspects left the store on foot and were last seen running southeast from the business. No one was injured in the incident and police continue to investigate.

On May 14, 2022, officers responded to a call in the 2000 block of Shadybrook Lane in Dothan. While there, it was learned the adult female at that location was in charge of five children, all under the age of 17. In a common area of the residence, she had what was believed to be liquid Xanax-soaked gummy candy. All five children had access to the candy, and it was believed she possibly allowed one of the children to intentionally ingest some of the candy.
Brandy Leshee Waters, 41 years old of Dothan, was charged with 5 counts of Chemical Endangerment of a child. Her bond was set at $75,000.00.
On May 14, 2022, Dothan patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that attempted to elude officers. Once the vehicle came to a stop in the 900 block of Allen Road, officers instructed all occupants to exit the vehicle. While doing so, a passenger threw unknown objects out the passenger window. As officers investigated to see what the objects were, it was determined to be four fraudulent checks the passenger attempted to destroy to avoid being caught with in his possession. The passenger was identified as 18 year old Jumarion Nasir Walker, of Dothan. Walker was charged with four counts of Possession of Forged Instrument Third Degree. His bond was set at $40,000.00.
On May 14, 2022, Phillip Gregory Sloan got into a vehicle and drove away without the knowledge of the owner while in the parking lot of a business in the 300 block of Columbia Highway. The owner, who observed their vehicle leaving without their knowledge, requested a ride from a stranger and had the stranger follow their stolen vehicle while they called 911. Within minutes, officers were able to conduct a traffic stop on the victim’s vehicle and take Sloan into custody. There was no connection between Sloan and the owner of the vehicle.
Phillip Gregory Sloan, 30 years old, of Slocomb, was charged with Theft of Property First Degree. His bond was set at $30,000.00.
