Man Shoots Wife Then Himself

The Dothan Police responded to 100 blk of Due West in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived they found a female victim that had been shot multiple times. The female was conscious and alert and told officers that she had been shot by her husband as she ran out the door and the victim advised the husband was still in side the residence.  The victim was transported to South East Health for treatment and is currently being evaluated.

The Dothan police tried to make contact with the husband via telephone and loud speaker. There was no response and the Dothan Police Special Response Team (SRT) made entry into the house where they found the husband deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Dothan Police Officer Dragged By An Impaired Driver

On the evening of March 5, 2020, the Dothan Police Department received multiple calls reporting a possible impaired driver traveling on Ross Clark Circle dragging the rear bumper with no headlights on.  An officer made contact with the vehicle and driver in a parking lot in the 2600 block of Ross Clark Circle.  The officer observed the driver passed out in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.  The officer woke the driver up and obtained her identification.  She was identified as 37 year old female, Jennifer Linsey Viveiros.  When the officer obtained the identification, Viveiros attempted to leave the parking lot by starting the vehicle and putting it in drive.  The officer attempted to stop her by trying to take the key from the vehicle and putting it into park.  During this time, Viveiros was able to get the vehicle in drive and accelerated forward dragging the officer and almost striking other vehicles in the parking lot.  Viveiros then put the vehicle in reverse and drug the officer backwards before putting the vehicle in drive and accelerating forward a second time, still dragging the officer.  Viveiros then struck a buggy corral in the parking lot, ejecting the officer from the vehicle.

Viveiros got back on Ross Clark Circle and continued to travel south, sill with no headlights on.  A concerned citizen who witnessed this incident followed Viveiros’ vehicle and continued to update the communication center on her location until  other officers were able to get Viveiros stopped in the 2200 block of Ross Clark Circle.  Viveiros then refused to get out of her vehicle again.  A K9 was utilized to apprehend Viveiros and she was taken into custody.  Viveiros and the officer were both taken to Southeast Health.  Viveiros was treated for a K9 bite and evaluated for impairment.  The officer was treated for minor injuries and released.

Viveiros was charged with one count of assault second degree with more charges pending as the investigation continues. Her bond for the assault second degree is $15,000.00.

Man Arrested for Shooting Girlfriend

In the early morning hours the Dothan Police responded to a shooting in Grand Villa Estates, off of 3rd Ave. When officers arrived, they found a female victim that was shot one time in the chest.  The suspect fled from the scene prior to officers arrival.  Through the course of the investigation, a suspects name was given of Nathaniel Overton. Investigators and patrolmen swept the area looking for Mr. Overton. Information was obtained that Mr. Overton fled to Daleville and  was possibly held up in a house in a local trailer park. Daleville Police Department was contacted and went to the address that Mr. Overton was staying at. Daleville Police were able to take Mr. Overton in custody without incident.

The victim received treatment at South East Health and is expected to survive and is listed in stable condition.

Nathaniel Overton (35) was charged with Domestic Violence 1st degree and is being held on a $60,000 bond.

The Dothan Police Department would like to thank  the Daleville Police Department  for their assistance in apprehending Mr. Overton.

Man Shoots Girlfriend in Eye

On 02/08/2020, the Dothan Police Department responded to South East Health in reference to a shooting victim. When officers arrived, they found a female victim had been shot in the eye in 1000 blk of Greentree.  Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that William Woods (33) shot his girlfriend in the eye  during an altercation.  The victim was flown to UAB for further treatment but is expected to recover.

William Woods was charged with Domestic Violence 1st Degree and is being held on a $60,000 bond.

Officer Bitten by Drug Suspect

On 1/18/20, The Dothan Police conducted a traffic stop in the 300 blk of Blackshear for a traffic violation. Upon further investigation it was determined that the driver was in possession of crack cocaine.  As the officers attempted to place the driver, Kenneth Glasgow,  in custody a struggle ensued as the officers were trying to get Glasgow  handcuffed. In the process of the struggle,  Glasgow attempted to swallow the crack cocaine and an officer put his finger in Glasgow’s mouth in order to retrieve the evidence.  Glasgow then bit down on the officers finger causing an injury.  The evidence was recovered and Glasgow was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Assault 2nd degree.

Glasgow is currently being held on no bond.

Shooter-Kidnapper Arrested

On 1/18/2020, The Dothan Police have arrested Juan Marcus Roberson (28) for the shooting of one victim and kidnapping the second.  Roberson was arrested Saturday night after he fled the shooting in the 100 blk of woods Drive. Roberson grabbed the kidnapping victim, Tanesha McLeod  and pushed her in the car and assaulted her all the way to Montgomery.  Once in Montgomery, Roberson stopped for gas and Miss McLeod was able to gain control over the vehicle and fled to another gas station in Montgomery.

The Montgomery Police Department responded and got into a foot pursuit of Roberson and  he was able to evade capture initially but was later captured by the Montgomery Police with the help of helicopters and police K-9s.

Roberson is being charged with Attempted Murder, Kidnapping 1st degree, Robbery 1st degree and Sodomy 1st degree, and is being held with no bond.

The shooting victim received a single gunshot wound to the chest and made it through surgery and he is listed in stable condition.

The Dothan Police Department would like to thank the Montgomery Police Department, The Troy Police Department, The Dale County Sheriff’s Office Air Unit and the US Marshals for their assistance in bringing this case to closure without further victims.

Juvenile Shot in Ankle in Drive-By Shooting

On 1/5/2020, the Dothan Police Department responded to the 4800 blk of Montgomery Hwy in reference to a person shot. When officers arrived, they were informed that an  SUV had came through the parking lot and opened fire on a group of juveniles.  One of the bullets struck a 15 year old in the ankle.  The juvenile was treated and released.

The Dothan Police Department takes this kind of act  very seriously and will be releasing more information in the near future.

Dothan Man Arrested for Kidnapping and Domestic Violence

The Dothan Police have arrested David Prokopchuk for kidnapping and domestic violence 1st degree . The Dothan Police received a call from the Southeast Health about a woman in the emergency room. When police arrived, they found that the victim had been held against her will for over 12 hours.  The victim had extensive physical bruises and broken bones. The victim was able to flee from the suspect  and made it to the emergency room.

The suspect, David Prokopchuk (32) is being held without  bond.

Two Dothan Police Officers Bitten During Arrest

The Dothan Police were dispatched to 1300 blk of West Main for a disorderly/trespassing call. Once officers arrived, they began to struggle with Steven Lawrence (38) of Dothan. During the struggle, two Dothan Police Officers were bitten  and assaulted while trying  to take Lawrence into custody. Both officers received treatment and were released from  South East Health. Lawrence will be charged with 2 counts of Assault 2nd  and will be held on no bond.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Son Used Hatchet on Mother During Argument

The Dothan Police responded to the 1000 block of Woodlawn in reference to a domestic violence call. When officers arrived, they found a victim with hatchet wounds on the head and arm.  The suspect is Brandon Holmes (26) the son of the victim.  After the assault, Holmes tried to steal a car but was apprehended by police.  Holmes  is being charged with Attempted Murder and Attempted Theft of Property 1st and is being held on no bond. The victim is being treated for serious but  non-life threating injuries.
