Dothan Police Assaulted

Two Dothan Police Officers were assaulted last night while performing a traffic stop in the 2100 blk of Montgomery Hwy. The driver attempted to throw narcotics in the back seat of his car. As officers tried to place Brandon Rashawn McGhee in handcuffs he began to fight and throw punches at both officers. Both officers received minor injuries and Brandon McGee fled the scene on foot.

Dothan Police Investigate Overnight Shooting

On 10/24/2019 Dothan Police responded to a single vehicle accident near the intersection of W. Powell Street and Edgewood Drive. Officer quickly determined that the driver was suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body and was transported to a local hospital. The victim is currently listed in critical condition.

The investigation is ongoing. Investigators are conducting searches and interviews throughout the area.

Dothan Police Investigate Stabbing

On 10/23/2019 Dothan Police responded to an edged weapon assault on Kristie Drive. It was determined that the victim had been stabbed in the upper torso. The victim was transported to a local hospital and underwent emergency surgery due to his injury. He is currently stable but still listed in critical condition.

The investigation revealed that the all parties involved are acquainted and there was no danger to the community.

Investigators have identified the suspect as Elmer Gomez. Gomez was last seen in the Kristie Road area following the assault.

Arrest Made in Domestic Shooting

On October 17, 2019, the Dothan Police Department received a call of persons shot, while attempting to kill a rabid raccoon on Brighton Court. When officers arrived, they found two people shot inside the residence. One person was shot in the leg and the other was shot in the arm.

After an investigation, it was determined that one gunshot wound was self-inflicted in an effort to cover up a domestic violence act. The victim received a non-life threating injury and there was no rabid raccoon at the scene.

Catherine Fernandez (37) was arrested and charged with Domestic Violence 1st Degree and will be held on a $30,000 bond.

All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

One Arrested in Haven Drive Shooting

On October 1st, 2019 Dothan Police responded to the 400 block of Haven Dr. in reference to a firearm assault. The victim, 31 year old Michael White, was located and had a minor injury on the left side of his face. White was treated by rescue at the scene.

White stated that he got into an argument with his ex girlfriend, 30 year old Malika Rashan Beacham . White stated that Beacham became violent during the argument and shocked him in the abdomen with a stun gun. White stated that he got into his vehicle and left the scene. He stated that Beacham followed him and when he stopped she exited her vehicle with a .45 caliber pistol and fired two shots at him. One of the bullets grazed Whites face. Beacham then fled the scene, but later turned herself in at the Dothan Police Department.

Beacham was charged with one count of Attempted Assault 1st Degree. She has a $30,000.00 bond.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty.

Arrest Made in Stabbing on S. Lena St.

On October 1st, 2019 Dothan Police responded to a report of an edged weapon assault in the 600 block of S. Lena Street. When officers arrived they located the victim sitting on the porch with a stab wound to his upper chest. Rescue was called to the scene and transported the victim to Southeast Health with non life threatening injuries.

The victim stated that he was stabbed with a knife by his girlfriend,  18 year old Laprincea Elease Bell.  Bell was located by police hiding in a bedroom inside of a residence in the 900 block of S. Alice Street a short time later. She was taken into custody without incident.

The victim was admitted to Southeast Health for his injuries and is listed in stable condition. Bell was charged with one count of Domestic Violence 2nd degree and has a $5,000.00 bond.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty.

Shooting leaves 2 injured

The Dothan Police Department Patrol Division has responded to the 400 block of Florida Avenue where two victims of gunshot violence have been transported to a local medical facility for treatment.

We are working to identify the shooter and ask that anyone with information about this case please call dispatch immediately at 615-3000 for Crime Stoppers.

Responding officers did a tremendous job utilizing tourniquets off of their personal kits to take life-saving measures for these victims. We would like to thank Dothan fire department and Pilcher’s ambulance service for their quick response to come in and support and continue these efforts.

Dothan Police Make Arrest in Dusy St. Shooting

On May 8, 2019 patrol officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a maroon Honda Accord. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and officers followed the vehicle until they were able to get it stopped at the intersection of East Selma St. and South Saint Andrews Street. At the intersection the driver of the vehicle, 21 year old Deneco Laquan Dean, backed into one of the patrol cars, then went forward and rammed another patrol vehicle before he was taken into custody by a police canine unit.

After being taken into custody officers located pills and marijuana in his possession. He was taken to Southeast Health where he was treated for minor dog bite wounds then transported to the Dothan City Jail.

Dean was also the suspect in an ongoing investigation into a shooting that occurred on May 5, 2019 in the area of Dusy St. in Dothan. Dean was charged with two counts of Attempted Assault 1st Degree, one count of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and one count of Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree for his actions during the traffic stop. He was also charged with one count of Assault 1st Degree for his involvement in the shooting on Dusy Street. He has bonds totaling $85,000.00.

One Arrest in Friday Shooting in Dothan

On Friday March 22, 2019 Dothan Police responded to a firearm assault in the 600 block of E. Newton Street. Officers found the victim, Lance Bynes (40), laying on the ground with two gunshot wounds. One of the shots entered his right shoulder and the other in his left thigh. Bynes was transported by ambulance to the SouthEast Health Emergency Room with non-critical injuries. He is currently listed in stable condition.

During the investigation officers discovered that the shooter fired six or seven shots in the direction of Bynes and fled on foot in the area. One of the suspects was identified as 19 year old Michael Mantez Gibson of Dothan. Gibson was located and interviewed at the police department.

Once interviews were complete Gibson was charged with one count of Assault 1st Degree and has a $60,000.00 bond. This investigation is still ongoing and more charges could be forthcoming.
