Postal Delivery Worker Robbed at Gunpoint

On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, the Dothan Police Department was notified by a Postal delivery worker who reported he had just been robbed at gunpoint in the 600 block of Allen Road. While on his route delivering mail, the Postal worker was approached by an individual who pulled a handgun and demanded personal property from him. In fear of his life, the Postal worker complied with the demands and the suspect then fled on foot. The Postal worker attempted to follow the suspect while notifying law enforcement. Within minutes of the incident, officers located the suspect only a few blocks away while fleeing the area. While searching the path traveled by the suspect, officers located majority of the personal property taken from the Postal worker as well as the weapon used during the robbery. It was determined the gun used was previously reported stolen.

Jermain Tyrone Holmes, 38 years old of Dothan, was charged with one count of Robbery First Degree and one count of Receiving Stolen Property Second Degree. He currently has no bond.

Assisting with the investigation is the United States Postal Inspector’s Office who will be pursuing federal charges against Holmes for this incident as well.

Last of 5 Murder Suspects Arrested in Georgia

In July of 2022, the Dothan Police Department along with the Holmes County Sheriff’s Department conducted a joint investigation into the disappearance of two individuals from Dothan. Shauna Terry and her boyfriend, Damien Bell were reported missing by family members. During the joint investigation, it was learned the two individuals were shot and killed; one in Dothan, and one in Holmes County, Florida. Both bodies were then buried in Holmes County.

A total of five suspects were identified as being involved in this incident. Four of those suspects were arrested during the days surrounding the investigation. The fifth suspect, MacAuthur Mike Hawkins, has been on the run since then attempting to evade capture.

On Wednesday morning, April 26, 2023, the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force from Atlanta took MacAuthur Mike Hawkins into custody near a residence he was living at in Decatur, Georgia without incident. Hawkins was using a false identity living with an individual portraying to be someone he was not. Hawkins will be held in Georgia until extradition to the Houston County Jail can be arranged. Once he arrives at the Houston County Jail, he will be formally charged with one count of Capital Murder, one count of Kidnapping First Degree, and one count of Abuse of a Corpse. He will have no bond.

Dothan Woman Charged with Torture, Willful Abuse of a Child

On Friday, April 21, 2023, the Dothan Police Department began investigating a complaint of torture, willful abuse of a child that occurred in the 1700 block of South Alice Street. As a result, investigators determined there was probable cause to believe Lashananda Tamarra Kee tortured, willfully abused, cruelly beat, or otherwise willfully maltreated a child under the age of 18.

Lashananda Tamarra Kee, 44 years old of Dothan, was charged with one count of Torture, Willful Abuse of a Child. Her bond was set at $15,000.00.

Due to the sensitive nature of this case, and the Alabama juvenile privacy laws, no further information will be released about this matter.

Dothan Man Found Murdered in his Backyard

On Friday Morning, April 14, 2023, at approximately 5:54 AM, the Dothan Police Department was notified about an unknown individual in the pool of a backyard on Redwood Avenue in Dothan. The homeowners did not know the individual. Officers arrived and found Blake Thomas Evans on the homeowner’s property with no explanation as to why he was there. Officers determined Evans was under the influence of an unknown substance and subsequently arrested him for public intoxication. During this encounter, officers determined Evans lived at 701 Langley Drive, Apartment 2.

At approximately 6:35 AM, the Dothan Police Department was notified that neighbors had found an individual lying face down in the back yard of 701 Langley Drive, Apartment 2. When officers arrived, they discovered the victim was deceased from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso. The victim, who also lived at this location, has been identified as 71 year-old Kenneth Bruce.

It was determined Bruce and Evans were roommates. During the early morning hours, the two had an argument about an unknown matter. During the argument, Evans retrieved a handgun that was kept in the apartment and shot Bruce multiple times before fleeing the residence.

Blake Thomas Evans, 33 years old of Dothan, has now been charged with Murder for the death of Kenneth Bruce. His bond for the Murder charge has been set at $1.5 Million. Evans was currently out on bond for an incident that took place in December of 2022 in which he was charged with Domestic Violence First Degree, Domestic Violence Strangulation and Assault Second Degree.

Third Person Arrested for the Murder at Pearl Lounge and Grill

On Monday afternoon, April 10, 2023, a third suspect, Dekeivon O’Keith Lawton, wanted for the murder that occurred at Pearl Lounge and Grill on March 30, 2023, was taken into custody. Lawton showed up at his bondsman’s office to make a payment on an unrelated charge. The bondsman was aware Lawton was a suspect in the murder and attempted to take Lawton into custody when a fight ensued. At the conclusion of the fight, Lawton was taken into custody and turned over to the Dothan Police Department.

Dekeivon O’Keith Lawton, 22 years-old of Dothan, was charged with one count of Murder. His bond was set at $1.5 Million.

One Suspect Charged in Drive-By Shooting

During the early morning hours of Saturday, April 8, 2023, Dothan Police officers responded to shots fired into a residence in the 900 block of Mercury Drive. When officers arrived, they discovered several bullet holes in the residence and located a gunshot victim inside. The victim had been shot in both legs while lying in the bed asleep. Officers began providing medical aid to the victim until Dothan Fire and Rescue arrived and took over treatment. It was reported that a vehicle slowed down in front of the residence while at least two individuals fired multiple shots at the residence from the vehicle.

After collecting evidence and talking with witnesses, officers located what they believed was the suspect vehicle in the driveway of a residence in the 2000 block of Lake Street. After conducting a search of the vehicle and residence, it was determined that was in fact the vehicle used during the drive-by shooting. One weapon believed to have been used during the drive-by shooting was also recovered. The driver of the vehicle at the time of the drive-by shooting was identified as Zykeith Jaheim Wimbley who was also present at the time of the search.

Zykeith Jaheim Wimbley, 21 years-old of Dothan, was charged with one count of Assault First Degree and one count of Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Dwelling. His bond was set at $60,000.00.

One Person Shot Inside Store

On Saturday, April 8, 2023, at approximately 3:00 PM, the Dothan Police Department was notified of a firearm assault that had occurred inside the Family Dollar located at 1061 South Oates Street. Officers arrived and found one victim with one gunshot to the upper torso and one to the arm. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries. This was an isolated incident that did not involve the business. All persons involved have been identified by law enforcement. This is an ongoing investigation that remains pending.

Armored Delivery Man Charged with Theft

The Dothan Police Department has been investigating an alleged theft of money reported by a local armored delivery service. It was reported that money was missing from deposits of several businesses they transport for. The armored delivery company conducted their own internal investigation and determined one single employee was responsible for the missing money which totaled several thousand dollars.

As a result of the Dothan Police Department’s investigation, on April 4, 2023, 50 year-old Terry Scott Brown of Dothan and a long-time employee of the business, was charged with one count of Theft of Property First Degree. His bond was set at $15,000.00.

On Tuesday, March 4, 2023, at approximately 9:40 PM, the Dothan Police Department responded to a robbery of a person in the 1000 block of Ross Clark Circle. Officers met the victim who reported an unknown suspect armed with an edged weapon approached him and demanded money. After the victim failed to produce money, the suspect physically assaulted him and took his personal property.

The victim was able to provide a suspect description and moments later officers located who they believed to be the described suspect in the 1200 block of E. Lafayette Street. After a probable cause search of the premises, officers located the victim’s personal property that was taken during the initial robbery.

As a result, Sherwin Jermaine Foxx, 39 years old of Dothan, was arrested and charged with one count of Robbery First Degree. His bond was set at $60,000.00.

Man Arrested for Assault and Sex Crime

In October of 2022, an employee of a Home Health Agency recognized injuries to an elderly client and became concerned while providing care to the client in the 100 block of Headland Avenue. As the employee continued to gather information as to what caused the injuries, it was recognized a crime had occurred to the victim during which time the victim was injured. The Dothan Police Department was contacted, and a criminal investigation began. It was learned the elderly female victim had allowed someone into her residence believing it was someone she was expecting. It turned out the person was not who she was expecting, instead it was a stranger.

The stranger began assaulting the female victim with her own medical equipment causing lacerations and contusions about her body. After the physical assault, the suspect then sexually assaulted the female before leaving the residence. Through various investigative means, the suspect was identified as Marcus Leonard Golden, 42 years-old of Dothan. Warrants were obtained for Golden but his whereabouts have been unknown.

On April 2, 2023, Golden was encountered by Law Enforcement at which time he was arrested for the outstanding warrants. Golden has been charged with one count of Assault Second Degree and one count of Sodomy First Degree. He currently has no bond.
