UPDATE: Traffic Fatality

On April 5th, 2019, the Dothan Police Department’s Crash Team responded to a traffic fatality at W. Main Street and North Woodburn Drive.  After the completion of the investigation, charges have been filed against white male Christopher Britt Hamm, 45 years of age, of Dothan.  Hamm has been charged with one count of Manslaughter ($60,000 bond), and one count of Assault 1st Degree ($60,000 bond).   Hamm was also charged with Driving Under the Influence at the scene of the crash.

Hamm has been processed and transferred to the Houston County Jail. All persons are innocent until proven guilty.

Traffic Fatality Press Release

On April 5, 2019, at approximately 11:20 P.M., the Dothan Police Department responded to the intersection of West Main Street at North Woodburn Drive after receiving information of a crash with injuries.

Investigators with the Dothan Police Department’s Traffic Division responded to the scene due to the severity of the crash. Through preliminary investigation, it has been determined a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, traveling west on West Main Street, collided with a 2014 Ford F150 that was traveling on North Woodburn Drive.

The driver of the Ford, Richard Lane Williford, 57 yoa of Dothan, Alabama, succumbed to the injuries received during the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Houston County Coroner’s Office. The passenger of the Ford was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet was arrested at the scene for driving under the influence and transported to the Dothan City Jail. More charges are pending following the completion of the investigation.

Traffic Fatality Press Release

On April 4th at 3:00 AM, Dothan Police were dispatched to a vehicle accident in the 6800 block of W. Main Street.  A single vehicle was travelling East on West Main Street and left the roadway causing the vehicle to roll numerous times.  The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver has been identified as 40 year old Kyle Pehrson, of N. Park Avenue, Dothan.

The crash is being investigated by the Dothan Police Department Crash Team.

The Dothan Police Department would like to express our deepest sympathies to the Pehrson family.

Crash causes power outage

A vehicle crash In the 1000 block of John D. Odom Road has caused a power outage. Please use caution if you are driving in the area as police, fire, medical and utilities units are on scene.

If you are without power please be careful if you were using any appliances (especially your stove) when the power failed. Be sure and turn off any appliances that may have been operating when the power failed.

Pursuit and road closure

The Dothan Police Department is working an active crash scene at Ross Clark and Kelly we asked motorists to please avoid the area as there are major closures and delays on Ross Clark Circle. There is an ongoing investigation of this crash and multiple criminal acts that preceded involving one of the vehicles. We ask the public to understand that there may be as many as four scenes to investigate leading up to the area we now stand so we ask for patience and understanding as we have members of patrol, investigations and traffic working diligently to find answers.

On July 5th at 7:31 AM, Dothan Police responded to a serious motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles in the 2400 block of E. Saunders Rd.  The two vehicles were both travelling in opposite directions on Saunders Rd. when they collided head-on.  Samuel Arthur Armstrong, 70 of Cottonwood, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  There were no other injuries.  The vehicle crash is being investigated by the Dothan Police Department Traffic Division.

Vehicle Vs. Pedestrian Press Release

On February 23rd at approximately 9:47 pm, Dothan Police responded to a vehicle crash in the 2500 block of Reeves Street.  It was determined that a 2004 Chevy Silverado was traveling North bound on Reeves Street when it struck an individual riding a bicycle, who was also North bound.  The individual was transported to Southeast Alabama Medical Center due to the injuries he received.  On March 5th, the cyclist succumbed to the injuries he received during the crash.  The individual has been identified as 51 year old Richard Dean Kinard of Sanders Road, Kinsey.  The vehicle crash is being investigated by the Dothan Police Department Traffic Division.  The Dothan Police Department would like to express our deepest sympathies to the Kinard family and all involved.
